UruguAi Legal is a research assistant for lawyers in Uruguay. Instead of searching case-law databases by keyword, you ask a question in plain language and get an answer that cites the rulings and statutes it’s based on, so you can check the sources yourself.
It launched in January 2024 and has since been rebranded as The Legal Tool.
What it does
- Answers with citations — ask about a legal topic or a specific case and get a written answer linked to the underlying documents.
- Chat interface — follow-up questions keep the context of the conversation.
- Transcription — turns legal documents and case files into searchable text.
- Deadline calculator — computes procedural deadlines for filings.
How it’s built
- Next.js, React and TypeScript on the front end
- Python and FastAPI on the back end
- Azure OpenAI for generation, Vespa for retrieval
- PostgreSQL and Turso for storage
- Docker on Azure
